Join us to celebrate the seventeenth (Inter-)National Day of Slayer on June 6, 2022! For your listening pleasure, we present Detroit, Baltimore, and Washington shows, all from 1984. Crank 'em and have a blast.
Slayer continues to confound the many. Producing raw metal, it inserted precision and structure using the techniques of hardcore punk and the viciously elegant patterns of heavy metal, creating anthems that hit hard on many levels. At the base, they had great rhythm and powerful sonic dynamics. Above that, there were melodies, although a bit unfriendly. At the top, Slayer recreated music itself around the idea of a central riff slamming into you live a wave of warfare because it had been framed so well by the others. Everyone can enjoy Slayer, as if they were listening to three different bands.
To this day, no one has stopped Slayer for virtuosity and aggression, although many have tried. We know you are out there borrowing Slayer riffs. We can feel it. But who can blame you? This may have been the greatest metal band of all time, and it lives on not just in our spirits but through daily blasting of relentless loud music back at a world that has forgotten how to think, care, or feel!
